My last painting for art school, at least this time around for my Bachelor’s in Illustration.
Who knows what will happen in the future now, right?
And that is the point- a little tea, a little catching up on my breath, then adventure.

(Don’t roll your eyes, but I totally have “The Breaking of the Fellowship” Lord of the Rings OST track going in my head. I am refraining from saying “there and back again yet” because I want a lot more of going “there” to come before it is time for “back again.”)
The theme is samurai/geisha. The Challenge always intimidates me a little because of the incredible artists making incredible art each month! But at the same time it’s cool to be able to participate, learn, and practice with them. 🙂
Here are some of my first projects. They are my first attempts, my first mistakes, and I have to say I’m pretty happy with the results. Not to mention I just like it. I am watching tutorials and practicing more. While I am happy with these I know I have a long way to go. Assuming my computer can take it- sometimes I was limited in my details and subdivision because of my computer. Oh well. I am trying to learn some methods around this for efficient geometry and models.
It’s also helped me realize how far I have to go in anatomy study (that it’s basically a lifetime of learning) and it has helped me progress with anatomy, even with the little I have done so far.
Yeah, I’m gushing about this y’all. 🙂

I wrote and illustrated and completed my first book dummy, Sophie and Rinn. I loved this project. I learned a lot from it, and I plan to make more. I will be sending it out to publishers just to see what happens, and to add that the experience of this whole ordeal.
Phew. This was one of those projects that I truly did my best on the entire way, but of course learned from as I progressed, and so want to improve on next time.

I worked hard on each spread to make each an interesting piece itself, with or without the text. It is a short story written in a picture book format, but I wanted it to be a complete narrative and visual experience that could be enjoyed by really any age of reader.
Anyway, I thought the story was sweet. I love my girl and my mer-boy. I want to make a webcomic for them eventually after I graduate. I am working on writing up more of their story- probably when they are older and with an older audience in mind.

For editorial illustration last semester we took a field trip to the bookstore and had to pick and have approved an article to illustrate. I found an article in The Optimist magazine about the relevance of the Art of War today and chose it.
This is a different illustration style and technique for me. I’ve done pen and ink, and I’ve colored digitally, but I’ve not really put them together like this. I really enjoyed it and want to experiment further.
Pretty much everyone in my life knows I love music and concerts, and that my favorite band is One Ok Rock, a Japanese rock band.
So… I’ve seen them 4 times, met them approximately 2.65 times, have autographs, pictures, and have given them 2 pieces of mine. I’m oddly thorough at times, what can I say? I’m not sorry for any of it and I’d do it all again.
Anyway. This is what I made- I gave it to them at a meet and greet.
It’s based off their song/music video “Deeper Deeper” and it’s made with Micron pens on a piece of canvas-like stuff that I found.
It was cool because we were at the end of the meet and greet line, they had hugged and smiled for a lot of people, but they still reacted to this so genuinely, which was lovely. 🙂
I haven’t seen them since October. It’s about time for another concert.
I haven’t decided if I hate Modo or if I’m just experiencing a sharp learning curve in 3D art. My feedback from teachers has been very hopeful- however my 3D classes have been really the only ones that make me worry if I’ll get a project finished, despite how much effort I put into it. Hours and hours can = nothing to show for it… I’m not used to that.
Still. I can’t decide what I think of this field.
The project was to recreate Trident Gum Layers in 3D
I start Zbrush next semester. I’m pretty excited about that actually.
I recently found the Character Design Challenge! group on Facebook and wanted to submit this little character study of the current challenge, which is generally a “Shaolin monk.” I used it to help me practice using line work in my illustration… I love line work but I haven’t quite polished how I like to use it, especially when working digitally.Â
Once in a while you sell your soul to a project. This children’s book project for my Book Publishing class may be my favorite project up to this point. As in, ever, in or out of school. I hope I write well, because creating the entirety of this story and designing the visuals made me so happy.

The world of Story-dom is one I will definitely explore more. I already knew that, but it was nice to have that solidified for me through this class project.
